News & Blog

This week we found out that there is going to be additional money put into each and every school! This is money that hasn’t been accounted for and therefore extra. Many schools will now be looking at what and how they can spend this money but at the same time asking if what they want is affordable in the long term? Why put something in place that the children love for it to be taken away again when the funding runs out? Making it sustainable is a must and Primary PPA Cover are able to offer a variety of subjects in line with the national curriculum but with specialist staff. School teachers are already superheroes, let them have their time out of the classroom to plan not worrying about what they are coming back to.

Amazing work from the children at Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Coventry! They have come third in this years Vocab Express challenge cup. Well done too to their Spanish teacher, Kerry. We are all so proud of you and already looking forward to the next competition!

Part of the Primary PPA Cover ‘Extra Mile Promise’ is to provide CPD for the schools that work with us. We are holding a CPD Brunch event at our Head office in November for new and existing schools. Confidence for school staff in delivering adequate MFL lessons in line with OFSTED requirements isn’t always there – Primary teachers are not able to be specialists in all areas!

Our CPD course will provide the following for attendees:

  • How to enter MFL competitions at no cost to your school
  • How to immerse languages through your school
  • How to write a subject leader action plan for MFL – free guide
  • A free copy of a MFL subject leader handbook – what should you be doing? What paperwork do you need?
  • How to write a Whole School Languages Policy
  • Free Apps to use in school
  • Free resources available on the day to take away with you
  • What Ofsted look for in an MFL provision
  • Sharing best practice with other schools

The event is £12 to attend and open to Head teachers and members of SLT within school. Do get in touch for more information if you would like to come along and learn something new.

With so much talk in the press over the past weeks, it only seems apt to publish something around Mental Health. National Mental Health Week was this week, and we are now seeing more and more people being open and honest about their mental health. Many schools are now offering sessions to not only pupils to channel their thoughts and feelings but staff too. We at Primary PPA Cover pride ourselves on being at the fore-front of research and development and our Yoga and Mindfulness sessions prove this. They not only work on core strength but inner strength and how to deal with different situations. This is being bought into our Head Office too with staff getting involved and utilising our Mental Health Coach, Rachel. Please get in touch if this is something you would like to know more about and how we can bring it into your school.

With so much focus on children’s wellbeing and mental health, now is the time to start focusing on different ways to bring this into the classroom and the front of their minds. Children are spending so much time on electronic ‘babysitters’ at home, so surely at school their minds should be challenged to push boundaries (in the right way)!

Yoga and Mindfulness sessions are becoming increasingly common in the run of the school day as more schools introduce this, either as part of their PE/PSHE/Drama curriculum or as an optional lunchtime or afterschool club, using them as a nurturing and fun way for children to develop body awareness and learn tools to keep them calm, present, happy and to aid manage anger and aggression through a variety of mediums including stories, breathing exercises and much more.

We at Primary PPA Cover have created a new Scheme of Work to bring all of this together as one. To find out more please get in touch!
